- The default "AI look"; exclude it for realism.
- Cluttered background
- Say what the background is, not just what it isn't.
- Fisheye distortion
- Creeps in with wide-angle requests.
Six habits that fix most bad results
Lead with the one thing the frame is about. Models weight the opening words most heavily. Style and grade belong at the end, not the start.
One subject, one action, one location per prompt. Two competing ideas produce a blend of both, and usually neither.
"Weathered galvanised steel" beats "nice metal". Material, colour and condition give the model something to render; words like "beautiful" give it nothing.
Focal length, angle and depth of field do most of the work. They are the difference between a snapshot and a photograph, in a single clause.
For video, describe a single camera move across the whole clip. Asking for a pan and then a zoom in five seconds produces a mess — shoot the second move as a second clip.
Iterate on one variable at a time. Rewriting the whole prompt after a bad result throws away the parts that were working.

What makes an AI image prompt work?
Lead with the subject, then describe framing and lens, then lighting, then the finish or style. Concrete nouns beat adjectives — "weathered galvanised steel" gives the model something to render, "nice metal" does not. Keep it to one subject, one action and one location per prompt.
How is a video prompt different from an image prompt?
A video prompt adds motion and time. Describe a single camera move that runs across the whole clip, say what changes during it, and state a duration — five to eight seconds is the reliable range for most video models. Asking for two different moves in one short clip usually produces a mess.
Can these prompts be used with any AI image generator?
Yes. They are written in plain descriptive English, so they work across the common image and video models. The only model-specific part is the trailing aspect-ratio flag such as --ar 3:2, which some tools take as a menu setting instead — remove it if yours does not accept it.
Why does AI-generated text in images come out wrong?
Most image models render lettering as shapes rather than characters, so words come out garbled. Generate the image with clean empty space where the text should sit, then add the headline afterwards in a design tool. Every poster and social prompt here is written that way.
